The players on point are approximately at the same height as the wicket on the off side, similar to gully but further away from it then gully. This is a very busy area of the field, and the role of the players a point is to catch shots played forcefully.
In the area of point are two quite similar positions. Backward point is a little bit more up the square.
The other position is silly point. Like the name suggests, it is not the best position to be at. The players located at silly point are just a couple of meters away from the batsman at the height of the wicket. Their role is often used, when the bowler is a spinner and used to catch any bad hits. The players of silly point are often seen jumping around to protect themselves from the big-shots the striker plays into off-side.
